Ocean Park Hong Kong

Hong Kong's home-grown park since 1977: a marine aquarium and zoo on the Waterfront, thrill rides on a headland called the Summit, and a 1.5 km cable car over the South China Sea joining the two. Six giant pandas, including the twins born here in 2024, 90 penguins, a 5,000-fish aquarium and the floorless Hair Raiser coaster make it the better pick over Disneyland for anyone over ten. It sits one MTR stop from Admiralty and has Indian vegetarian food on the official menu.

Any tips before I go?Ocean Express funicular UP (4 min, short queue), cable car DOWN in the late afternoon when its line thins.

  • Ocean Express funicular UP (4 min, short queue), cable car DOWN in the late afternoon when its line thins — the reverse of what the crowd does.

  • Bring your own food and water — allowed in reasonable quantities (no alcohol, nothing pungent, bag under 56×36×23 cm); fountains and free Wi-Fi throughout.
  • Height checks: Hair Raiser 140 cm, The Flash 137–195 cm and age 12+, The Rapids 120 cm (you will get soaked — raincoats sold at the ride).

What should I carry?A light jacket for the penguin and polar halls.

  • Raincoat or a change of top for The Rapids
  • Refillable bottle and your own snacks — allowed

Anything else worth knowing?Sikh visitors: a necklace-style kirpan up to 7.5 cm is fine under the official park rules.

  • Sikh visitors: a necklace-style kirpan up to 7.5 cm is fine under the official park rules; larger ones go through security at the entrance. There is a prayer room at Thrill Mountain next to The Flash.
  • The dolphin show ended in 2020 — what remains is a 1:30pm feeding demonstration; the seal and sea lion area (North Pole Encounter) is shut until a new marine mammal centre opens in January 2027.
  • Half the Summit's new 50th-anniversary attractions are still coming (panda habitat Q3 2027) — the park is good now but the rides side is the weaker half; Disneyland wins for under-8s.
